THE COMFY COW TO RELOCATE FRANKFORT AVENUE LOCATION
Louisville landmark was an iconic commissary for a local ice cream company.
The Comfy Cow announced today that it will be closing its retail location at 2221 Frankfort Avenue in October of this year.
“We have been looking for a relocation opportunity to downsize for some time. It’s a great building, but 5,000 square feet is more than we need for just a retail scoop shop,” said owner, Chip Hamm.
The Louisville-based ice cream company restored a dilapidated Queen Anne house and constructed a commissary kitchen and retail space on the former Genny’s Diner site in 2013.
“Obviously, we love the neighborhood. We have been part of the revitalization of Clifton and are actively looking for a relocation site, something smaller for just retail. We are announcing now to give ourselves and the landlord some time to find a replacement,” said Hamm.
In January 2021, the company announced that it was moving its headquarters and production from the Frankfort Avenue location. Hamm added, “When we opened this building in 2013, we had two, going on three stores. Now, we have five stores, logistics for catering and events, and fulfillment of our online delivery. It’s just a different business than the space was designed for.”
The Comfy Cow opened its most recent location at the Paddock Shops in September 2021.
The company plans to host several customer appreciation events and ice cream specials throughout the summer to celebrate.
“We plan to blow it out. It’s been a great space with a great landlord partner. Ultimately, we’re looking forward to opening a new space in the neighborhood; but for now, we want to celebrate this location. Our neighbors know us for stepping up to save the building. We’re definitely going to open up the recipe vault!”
The Frankfort Avenue scoop shop is open from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday.
